bbv invests in Side Effects

Lucerne/Zurich - bbv Software Services and the start-up Side Effects have concluded an agreement to enter into a strategic partnership. Through this, both technology firms intend to expand their digitalization offering for industrial and medical technology clients.

bbv Software Services from Lucerne has invested in the Zurich-based start-up Side Effects within the framework of a financing round. No details regarding the scope of the investment were disclosed in a press release. Through this collaboration, the software and consulting firm bbv intends to offer its industrial customers a broader service portfolio in connection with digitalization projects.

The start-up Side Effects specializes in the interactive use of construction data (CAD) in 3D. In this context, it has developed a software solution by the name of vStage, which allows companies to interactively visualize their machines and productions in both 3D and real time in the form of a digital twin.

For bbv and its clients, this investment generates a series of new potential applications. For example, they could use vStage for virtual product presentations and training, operation manuals, remote services and spare parts management.

“Our joint solutions competencies in the area of digitalization for our clients, particularly industrial and medtech clients, will be significantly strengthened through this close partnership. Services for monitoring systems, training and certification of system and machine users as well as in the area of customer service will be comprehensively supplemented”, comments Martin Egloff, Business Area Manager at bbv, in the press release.

Side Effects is keen to leverage the experience of its investor in the area of digitalization for industrial companies in order to broaden the potential areas of application for its software solution. “Real-time 3D monitoring systems and data-driven service and training manuals are the just start”, explains René Krebs, CEO of Side Effects AG, in the press release. He sees particularly huge potential in linking 3D CAD data with live data from the Internet of Things.
