FCE digitizes agriculture in Nigeria
Root LU/New York - FCE Group AG is collaborating with the nonprofit organization Synergos Nigeria. Together they hope to provide 450,000 farmers in northwest Nigeria with access to cloud and blockchain technologies. This aims to support agriculture and prevent a social and climate catastrophe.
FCE Group AG from Lucerne and Synergos Nigeria have entered into a strategic partnership. According to a press release from FCE, their joint pilot project plans to provide digital tools and open access to a cloud platform to 450,000 farmers. This will give them a digital identity as well as market information and a payment system with traditional and alternative payment methods. Moreover, traceability of the supply chain will be ensured for the first time through blockchain technology.
FCE provides technology consulting and is involved in the development, adaptation, and improvement of blockchain and cloud technologies for companies. Blockchain can bring together various parties where there is a lack of trust according to FCE’s website. At the same time, it is also providing the globally active nonprofit organization Synergos with confidence-building measures at the center of its development work.
The project in the Nigerian state of Kaduna plans to reach out to as many small-scale farmers as possible. It will “demonstrate how a technological approach can drastically change farmers' businesses and improve their livelihoods”. FCE CEO Gregory Arzumanian explains: “The current project is a pilot that we plan to scale to other Nigerian states and probably neighboring countries after we deliver a practical and efficient approach”. He adds: “I believe our project will show how the right combination of technologies will foster a progressive shift in the agricultural sector from development to agribusiness and avoid social and climate catastrophe.”
