Schindler supplying elevators to new Egyptian city

Ebikon LU - Schindler is to supply 129 elevators for six office towers in Egypt. These are currently under construction in the country’s new administrative capital. The city is being built in the desert and could eventually be home to 6.5 million people.

The elevator and escalator manufacturer Schindler has been awarded a contract in Egypt, details of which can be found in a press release. The company, which is headquartered in Ebikon in the canton of Lucerne, is to deliver and install a total of 129 elevators for six office towers. Moreover, Schindler will be equipping the buildings with its PORT technology, which helps to calculate the most efficient route to reach another location within the building.

The office towers for which Schindler is supplying its vertical mobility solutions are being constructed in the new administrative capital of Egypt, located in the desert to the east of Cairo and covering an area of more than 700 square kilometers. According to information from Schindler, this is comparable to the size of Singapore. The new city should eventually be home to 6.5 million people and is expected to be officially opened towards the end of 2021.

“The grandiose new capital city of Egypt will feature the latest technology that will turn it into one of the major sustainable, smart city projects across the Middle East”, comments Chang Weicai, General Manager of China State Construction Engineering Corporate Egypt, which was appointed as the general contractor for the project. Schindler products will “contribute vastly to the new capital’s smart and human-centric urban mobility”, Chang Weicai explains further.
