60 Years of MSD Switzerland: An anniversary of Innovation in Lucerne

Luzern - MSD Switzerland marks 60 years of successful presence in Luzern. The company, a global leader in biopharmaceuticals with a history spanning over 130 years, reaffirms its commitment to Luzern and the surrounding region. MSD operates five locations in Switzerland, including four in the Luzern region, making it one of the company's key global sites.

MSD (Merck Sharp & Dohme) has been a significant player in the biopharmaceutical industry since its founding in 1894. Known as Merck & Co. in the United States and Canada, the company focuses on scientific innovations to develop medicines and vaccines that can improve the lives of millions worldwide.

For six decades, MSD has maintained a presence in Switzerland, with its first Swiss branch established in 1963. Since then, MSD Switzerland has evolved into an organization with five local offices.

With approximately 1,000 employees representing more than 54 nationalities, including those at the Innovation and Development Center, The Circle, in Zurich, MSD is one of the largest employers in the Luzern region. The company places a strong emphasis on diversity and inclusion, as well as the professional and personal development of its workforce, earning recognition as a certified Top Employer.

Looking ahead, MSD has laid the foundation for a new district on the Rösslimatt site in Luzern, with plans to move into the innovative location by 2025. This underscores MSD's ongoing commitment to the city and region of Luzern, where the new site will contribute to an innovative hub for science, research, and creativity.

MSD Switzerland also actively engages in social responsibility, forming long-term partnerships and supporting local initiatives. The company participates in events such as the Trendtage Gesundheit Luzern and the Allianz Gesundheitskompetenz. Furthermore, MSD sponsors the non-profit organization Madame Frigo, which combats food waste, and supports the Bike-Marathon Race for Life, benefiting cancer patients and cancer research.
