ampereon in Horw: A Commercial Building That Puts Energy Efficiency into Practice
Horw - A commercial building in Horw demonstrates what energy-efficient construction can look like in practice. The ampereon project by the Aregger family (aregger elektro ag / asons ag) integrates photovoltaics, battery storage and energy management into a single system – and according to its developers, runs on self-generated electricity on most days.
A new commercial building in Horw shows what energy-efficient construction can look like in practice. The ampereon, developed by the Aregger family (aregger elektro ag / asons ag), combines photovoltaics, battery storage, an energy management system and EV charging infrastructure into an integrated energy concept. According to the developers, the building is able to meet its own electricity needs on most days.
The project was not designed as a single measure, but as an integrated system: the photovoltaic installation on the roof and facade generates electricity, the battery storage smooths out load peaks and bridges periods of low sunlight, and the energy management system controls consumption – including the heat pump and EV charging infrastructure. The concept is further complemented by building automation, natural ventilation and timber frame construction.
All office spaces in the four-storey building at Grisigenstrasse 12 are let. The top floor features a semi-public pavilion with terrace, used for events and professional exchange.
The kriensInfo 5/2026 recently featured the project in a reportage. According to its developers, ampereon is intended to serve as a reference project for property developers and planners looking to pursue similar approaches in commercial or industrial construction.
For the Lucerne business and innovation location, the project is a concrete example of how sustainable building technology and cost-effective operation can go hand in hand – and that such concepts are achievable in regional commercial construction.
