Andritz Hydro set for growth in Lucerne
Kriens - Andritz Hydro is seeking a new site for a plant close to its current location in Kriens in the canton of Lucerne. The company specializing in paddles and other components for hydropower plants is taking this step to meet rising demand. It also plans to create new jobs.
Andritz Hydro is confident about the future. According to an article in the Luzerner Zeitung newspaper, after several years of crisis, the tide has turned for the company specializing in electromechanical systems and services for hydropower plants in Kriens. This is due to the acceptance of Energy Strategy 2050 and the rise in fossil fuel costs in the wake of the war in Ukraine. “Since last year, electricity costs have shot up and there is now greater backing for hydropower on a political level as well, not least because of the risk of electricity outages and electricity supply shortfalls,” said Andritz branch manager Claudio Nold in the article.
However, Andritz Hydro must now look for a new site in order to realize its growth plans. Its current plant is on the site of an old Bell factory in Kriens, which is set to be repurposed as a new town district over the next few years. The company wants to stay in a similar area: “From the end of 2026, we are looking for a new site nearby for our service workshop,” explained Nold. The approximately 120 office employees are to remain at the Bell site.
