Aregger AG to celebrate centenary

Buttisholz - At the end of June, Aregger AG from the canton of Lucerne is set to celebrate its 100-year anniversary. F Aregger now employs 300 staff. In 2021, the company moved into a new building. Today, 45 percent of the construction firm’s turnover is attributable to structural engineering, with the rest coming from civil engineering and demolition activities.

Aregger AG will mark its centenary with a circus celebration at the end of June 2025. The construction firm has been under third-generation management in the shape of Hans Aregger since 1990. According to an article published by the «Luzerner Zeitung», in future the company will aim to ensure that Aregger AG is kept in the family, with at least two family members on the Board of Directors. Viktoria Aregger, the 29-year-old daughter of the company owner and Chairman of the Board of Directors, is also a board member. Like her father, she studied business administration and earned pocket money by driving a dump truck. Since then, she has amassed experience across various areas of the company.

The real estate crisis of the 1990s necessitated drastic restructuring measures in order to ensure the survival of the company. At that time, the number of employees was reduced by nearly half from 400, but the headcount is today back at 300. «That was a catastrophic situation and a very difficult time», as Hans Aregger recalls. The company reportedly focused on its core business in addition to tapping into new business areas, such as landfills. «We were able to rely on dedicated and loyal employees», the CEO adds.

Today, the company has regained solid foundations, with 45 percent of revenues coming from structural engineering and 25 percent from civil engineering. The demolition division has been significantly upgraded with machinery and materials in recent years and now accounts for a share of 30 percent of annual revenues. The fleet comprises 91 machines ranging in weight from 1.5 to 300 tons. Aregger AG invested a sum of 25 million Swiss francs in its 145-meter-long company building in Buttisholz in the canton of Lucerne. The new headquarters is located just a stone’s throw away from the previous site and covers an area of 23,000 square meters. The company inaugurated it in 2021.
