Belgian Matrafoam takes over the Superba and Swissflex brands
Büron - Superba und Swissflex, the two traditional Swiss mattress brands, have been saved. Insolvency proceedings were initiated on October 31, 2025, against the previous owner Aquinos Bedding Switzerland AG from Büron. An investor has now been found in the form of the Belgian company Matrafoam.
The insolvency proceedings initiated on October 31, 2025, against Aquinos Bedding Switzerland AG in Büron in the canton of Lucerne have been averted. Until recently, the company manufactured mattresses under the Superba and Swissflex brands. In a report, the newspaper «Luzerner Zeitung» quotes «bz Basel», stating that the newly secured investor is the Belgian company Matrafoam. To facilitate this acquisition, Lunora AG was founded on November 28, 2025, at Bettenweg 12 in Büron. Lunora is headed up by the previous managing director, Markus Zoller.
The Portuguese Aquinos Group acquired the mattress manufacturer in April 2022. Until then, the company had operated as a subsidiary of Recticel, which is also based in Belgium. It relocated what were once large-scale production activities from Büron to Flüh, which is located in the Swiss canton of Solothurn on the outskirts of Basel, and to Belgium.
Most recently, the company employed around 45 members of staff, most of whom are based in Flüh. The account manager from the bankruptcy office West of the canton of Lucerne overseeing these proceedings confirmed to the newspaper that approximately 40 employees have been retained and that the necessary production resources will be temporarily leased to the new company. According to the information, negotiations regarding the headquarters in Büron continue.
According to a letter to suppliers signed by Markus Zoller and Hans van Duysen, Chairman of the Board of Lunora, this acquisition will enable a «rapid restart on December 1, 2025». Retailers are to be contacted in the coming days regarding production, deliveries and terms. In the ‘bz’ newspaper, Zoller is quoted as saying: «After an extended period of uncertainty and stress, a huge weight has been lifted from our shoulders». Zoller went on to say that he fought with the parent company, Aquinos, for several months to ensure the continuation of production activities.
According to «Luzerner Zeitung» citing «several sources», Aquinos had overextended itself following the purchase of the bedding division of Recticel. Subsequently, funding to subsidiaries throughout Europe was stopped, with no salaries having been paid since June. Simon Kopp, spokesperson for the economic crime unit at the Lucerne public prosecutor’s office, commented that a complaint lodged against Aquinos is currently under review.
