Solothurn/Grosswangen - Bieri Tenta AG has installed a new awning at the open-air swimming pool in Solothurn. This awning is a mechanically tensioned membrane roof, designed to provide a permanent source of shade for the playground.
Bieri Tenta AG from Grosswangen in the Swiss canton of Lucerne, has replaced the old awning at the Freibad an der Aare open-air swimming pool in Solothurn with a new mechanically tensioned membrane roof. According to a press release, the original awning was no longer fit for purpose due to its age and could not be repaired satisfactorily. The new solution installed by Bieri was constructed using modern technology and is intended to provide a permanent and safe source of shade for the playground.
According to Bieri, it was no longer possible to re-tension the structure due to the original technical design. The previous awning was a textile structure without structural support. In a preliminary project, Bieri developed a new solution, incorporating current standards and recalculating the structural design in the process. The new mechanically tensioned membrane roof is said to be a reconstruction of the original form including modern detailed solutions and reportedly complies with all safety requirements. According to the information, the temporary winter support remains part of the concept and has been adapted to the new structure.
The membrane roof is characterized by its textile construction and now provides plenty of shade for the playground located on the site of the lido. The outdoor swimming pool is a popular meeting place, especially on hot summer days, and is continually being modernized.
