Bieri Tenta takes steps to facilitate digital tracking of its tarpaulins
Grosswangen - Bieri Tenta will in future be equipping its products with electronic chips as standard. These RFID chips are welded directly onto the tarpaulins, thereby creating a digital product passport. In this way, the trucks using these tarpaulins can also be digitally tracked.
In future, Bieri Tenta will be fitting RFID chips in its tarpaulins. With this move, the tarpaulin manufacturer based in Grosswangen in the canton of Lucerne is seeking to prepare for the introduction of a digital product passport, as detailed in a statement. The EU will gradually launch the digital product passport starting in 2027.
The RFID (radio-frequency identification) chips are welded directly onto the tarpaulins using a satin ribbon. The chips operate in both UHF (ultra-high frequency) and NFC (near field communication) ranges.
By marking the tarpaulins with RFID chips, the company is seeking to generate greater transparency, efficiency and improved service levels. Users can connect directly to service stations for tarpaulin repair or cleaning via their smartphones. The UHF technology will enable faster product identification, including for entire containers. The new marking system is to be rolled out gradually, starting with truck tarpaulins.
