Björn Ischi installs circular furniture in Building 1 at Campus Sursee
Sursee - The industrial designer Björn Ischi has fully fitted out the converted Building 1 at the Sursee Campus with circular furniture. By repurposing used materials that are economically competitive with conventional products, he has created sustainable training and office facilities for the educational and seminar center.
The industrial designer Björn Ischi has fully furnished the refurbished Building 1 at the Campus Sursee with recycled furniture. With his company Designform GmbH, Ischi has equipped the seminar and training center, which specifically focuses on the training of construction site managers, with sustainable seating arrangements and study tables. The furniture was made from formwork boards and other reclaimed materials with the aim of meeting the students’ requirements.
In a press release, Ischi states that the circular furniture is economically competitive with products sold at market prices. In this way, sustainability is not a compromise, but actually a win-win situation.
The project at Campus Sursee was initiated back in 2022. From 2024 onwards, Ischi began to itemize existing materials on campus. It was on this basis that he designed the circular furniture. The furniture designer Girsberger from Thunstetten in the Swiss canton of Bern provided technical coordination for the project.
Ischi highlights the effective cooperation with the management of the seminar and training center. «Where others might have got rid of old materials, Campus Sursee had the courage to think differently», he explains. Short pathways and clever ideas beat long transport routes and producing new furniture from scratch. «The future arrives when we learn to value and reinterpret the old», Ischi concludes.
