Canton of Lucerne expands location promotion

Lucerne - The canton of Lucerne wants to make the location more attractive for companies. With this goal in mind, it has increased its budget for location development to 12.7 million Swiss francs. The funds are primarily destined for projects in priority economic areas.

The canton of Lucerne is expanding its location promotion activites as part of the New Regional Policy (NRP). From 2024 to 2027, the federal government and canton are providing a total of 12.7 million Swiss francs as a subsidy funding in equal shares, according to a statement from the cantonal administration. A further 4.8 million francs will be granted as loans. In the previous period from 2020 to 2023, around 8.5 million Swiss francs was provided in subsidies and 4.8 million in loans.

The federal government has «positively acknowledged» the canton's corresponding implementation program and awarded the canton «the requested NRP funds in full», according to the statement. The new program covers the areas of location development, tourism and regional development. The focus will be on location development. Here, the development of economic priority areas will be integrated into the New Regional Policy.

The canton is also supporting companies in the development and implementation of business ideas and innovation as part of the Central Switzerland Regional Innovation Strategy. A further 4.2 million Swiss francs is being made available for this purpose. It will primarily fund innovation coaching provided by the InnovationsTransfer Zentralschweiz association.

The canton of Lucerne is working closely with the regional development agencies to implement the 2024 to 2027 program. «This means that the canton, the local municipalities and private stakeholders can work together to exploit potential in the economic priority areas so that more attractive areas become available for companies,» writes the cantonal administration.
