Castlewood Hotels & Resorts is acquiring the Hotel Royal in Lucerne. The company based in Beckenried in the canton of Nidwalden has only operated castle and country hotels in Germany to date. With the Hotel Royal, which was built in the art nouveau style in 1910, Castlewood is expanding within Switzerland for the first time. The Hotel Royal has 46 rooms and a terrace.

According to a press release, the building at Lake Lucerne is an impressive addition to Castlewood Hotels & Resorts’ collection of exclusive country houses and historic buildings. Castlewood CEO Kateryna Smura commented: «Switzerland is an important pillar in our expansion strategy.» She added that it stands for values that fit the brand perfectly: hospitality, timeless elegance, and tradition.

The Hotel Royal is now a member of the Swiss Hospitality Collection, an association for the individual hotel industry. This membership offers a strong partnership as well as increased visibility according to Castlewood.

After a phase of strong growth from the company’s founding in 2017 to 2019, it already had 13 buildings in its portfolio. At the start of this year, there were seven, and in the meantime this has increased to nine with the Hotel Royal. Smura outlined the company’s ambitious plans to Zurich’s hospitality portal Hotelinside: «In 2023, we plan to grow to eleven hotels and by 2024 we hope to have 20 hotels.»
