CKW confirms previous year's results

Lucerne - The CKW Group delivered a solid operating performance in the first half year of 2025/26. The Group increased its adjusted EBIT by 3.7 per cent to 90 million Swiss francs, while total revenue fell by 2 per cent to 594 million Swiss francs. The Group attributes this stable performance to its hedging strategy.

The CKW Group generated an adjusted EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes) of 89.8 million Swiss francs in the first half of the 2025/26 fiscal year, representing a 3.7 per cent increase compared to the same period last year. According to a statement, total revenue fell slightly by 2 per cent to 594.1 million Swiss francs. The statement attributes the increase in operating profit to the Group’s hedging strategy. Although the Axpo subsidiary generated lower production volumes in the first half of the year due to work at the Gösgen nuclear power plant, it secured its operating performance with electricity prices hedged in advance.

In the first half of the year, CKW invested 29.2 million Swiss francs in property, plant, and equipment and intangible assets. In the Energy segment, investments during the reporting period focused on the renovation of the Emmenwald power plant and district heating projects. In the Grid segment, CKW invested over 20 million Swiss francs in renewing its power grid. The Building Services segment is faced with declining demand for photovoltaic systems and heat pumps, while in the Electrical Installations sector, CKW maintained its revenue and margins.

CKW is simultaneously driving the expansion of grid infrastructure and renewable energy. New rate models, the flexibility market for photovoltaic systems, and local electricity cooperatives are all intended to help maintain grid stability and make more efficient use of solar power. In addition, CKW is collaborating with Axpo on several wind farm projects in the Swiss canton of Lucerne and is planning additional district heating networks to reduce the use of fossil fuel-based heating systems.
