CKW increases revenue but earns less

Lucerne - In the first half of the 2024/25 financial year, CKW increased its overall performance by 3 percent to 607 million Swiss francs. Despite this, however, EBIT fell by 37 percent to 89 million Swiss francs. Nevertheless, the company reported an increase of 10 percent in EBIT adjusted for special effects to 87 million Swiss francs.

The CKW Group posted an improvement in its operating performance year on year across all segments in the first six months of the 2024/25 financial year. Adjusted EBIT (operating earnings before interest and taxes adjusted for special effects) at the energy supplier rose from 79 to 87 million Swiss francs.

In addition to the high availability of production facilities and good capacity utilization in the building technology segment, the strong performance of grid services segment, especially in relation to grid system construction for industry and other grid operators, contributed to this result. The overall performance of the Axpo subsidiary increased by 3 percent to 607 million Swiss francs.

With the exceptionally strong development of the financial markets in the prior-year period not being repeated, the performance of the decommissioning and waste disposal funds was reportedly down by 42 million Swiss francs. In addition, the price-based, temporary valuation effects on the hedged energy volumes fell by 19 million Swiss francs. These two special effects reduced reported EBIT to 89 million Swiss francs. In the prior year, the equivalent value had been 141 million Swiss francs, while net income also declined by 37 percent to 82 million Swiss francs.

In March 2025, Axpo Holding AG acquired a further 272,403 shares in CKW AG, increasing its stake in the energy service provider by 4.5 percent to 85.6 percent.
