The Lucerne-based energy firm CKW has invested in the German start-up Oxygen Technologies. Together, the two companies are planning to develop a smart energy platform for the Swiss market. In the previous financial year, CKW increasingly focused on expanding its renewable energy offering.
According to a press release, Centralschweizerische Kraftwerke AG (CKW) has acquired a 20 percent stake in Oxygen Technologies. The German start-up develops IT solutions for the energy market. CKW is planning to develop a smart energy platform for the Swiss market together with the start-up. The aim is to produce an end-to-end solution with which owners of solar panel installations, heat pumps, battery storage units and e-charging stations can network their systems and optimize energy supply. According to CKW, this is currently tricky to accomplish on account of sub-standard communications and control standards at energy plants of various suppliers. With its investment in Oxygen Technologies, CKW has also already secured exclusive marketing rights for the new smart energy platform across Switzerland.
CKW has also announced its financial figures for the financial year 2018/19. The Lucerne-based company increased operating profit from 102.6 million Swiss francs in the previous year to 186.8 million Swiss francs. Sales declined slightly to 773.6 million francs (previous year: 787.4 million francs). In financial year 2018/19, CKW continued to invest in renewable energies. In this context, the new Urnerloch discharge power plant was connected to the network in November 2019, while the small Schächen and Erstfeldertal hydropower plants are still under construction. Despite being formed just one year ago, the new business area of heat engineering has already generated a profit. Moreover, solar energy technology has established itself further, with sales rising by 93 percent in this area.
