Competec to make renewed investment in Willisau

Willisau/Mägenwil - When it comes to expansion plans, Competec is refusing to rest on its laurels: Having only presented its new building in Willisau in the canton of Lucerne to the public on May 18, the commercial group is now set to work on upgrading its small parts warehouse at the same site. Further expansion projects are in the pipeline too.

According to a report in the newspaper “Luzerner Zeitung”, the Competec Group is already planning a further expansion of its Willisau site. The commercial group with its headquarters in Mägenwil in the canton of Aargau only presented the recently completed building extension in Willisau to the public on May 18. Competec invested a sum of around 70 million Swiss francs in an automated warehouse for large parts and another for medium-sized items as part of this project. “People only come in here if there are problems to be fixed, otherwise everything works as if by magic”, the report states.

With the expansion of the small parts warehouse at the same site, Competec has already planned its next expansion project. “In addition to the three existing autostore facilities, we intend to build a further two”, comments CEO Martin Lorenz in the report. Competec has drawn up plans to invest a further 40 million Swiss francs in the first phase alone.

The group has also acquired the right to purchase a plot of land covering 20,000 square meters opposite the town of Willisau’s forestry services center (Korporation Stadt Willisau Forstwerkhof). Another 14,500 square meter plot of land adjacent to the existing site has been purchased as a strategic land reserve. “It would be great if we could put a new logistics building into operation next to the current new building in three to four years’ time”, says Lorenz, before adding: “We are very happy in Willisau and are planning for the long term here”.
