CREABETON and Oxara launch low-carbon paving stones

Rickenbach/Dietikon - CREABETON and the startup company Oxara from Dietikon in the Swiss canton of Zurich are launching a new series of low-carbon concrete pavers. The stones are manufactured using Oulesse, Oxara’s cement-free binder. They are available in a standard shape, are water-permeable, and can be used as lawn pavers.

The Lucerne-based building materials company CREABETON, a subsidiary of Müller-SteinagBaustoff AG, has partnered with the startup Oxara to develop a new range of cement-free paving stones. The new concrete stones produce 30 per cent less CO2 emissions than conventional paving stones, according to a statement.

The new product is available in three versions. In addition to standard paving stones, water-permeable and grass paving stones are available. Instead of conventional cement, the material uses Oulesse, a binding agent developed by Oxara, which is a spin-off of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH).

«With these products, we’re responding to the growing demand for climate-friendly construction solutions,» Hendrix Müller, CEO of Müller-Steinag Group, is quoted as saying. «Our collaboration with Oxara enables us to offer more sustainable choices to our customers – today, not years from now.»

Martin Bodmer, Head of Operations at Oxara, believes that the collaboration with CREABETON will enable his company to scale its sustainable developments.
