Cudos simplifies electronic assembly registration at RUAG
Weiningen/Emmen - Cudos, a software developer based in Weiningen in the Swiss canton of Zurich, has developed a Qt application for RUAG AG to register and inspect electronic assemblies. The application automates key quality assurance steps and provides complete traceability of all inspected assemblies.
Cudos has developed a Qt/QML application for Emmen-based RUAG AG in the Swiss canton of Lucerne, the technology partner of the Swiss Armed Forces, to register and inspect printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs). According to a statement, PCBAs are fully assembled printed circuit boards populated with electronic components. While RUAG outsources part of its production to external manufacturers, it remains responsible for quality assurance and ensuring full traceability of the assemblies.
According to Cudos, the goal of the project was to automate the entire testing process – from registering the assemblies using barcode scanners to installing firmware, performing structural tests, and automatically printing test reports. All relevant data is stored in a central database, enabling RUAG to track the complete lifecycle of each assembly at any time.
The Qt/QML application developed by Cudos integrates production automation controls, scanners, databases, and hardware controls into a single central application. Implementing the inspection logic at an early stage reportedly helped clarify interfaces and coordinate the various subsystems throughout the project.
The consistent use of AI-assisted development significantly reduced the implementation effort, according to the company. Cudos said the resulting application is efficient and robust, providing a reliable solution for day-to-day production operations.
“The flexible collaboration with Cudos and iterative prototyping ensured high usability and complete traceability, and helped us make significant progress in meeting strict quality requirements,” Frank Schuessler, Director of the Hardware and Software Development Department at RUAG, is quoted as saying.
