ELCA acquires majority stake in Beyond Civic

Pully/Lucerne - The ELCA Group has acquired a majority stake in the Lucerne-based Beyond Civic AG. By leveraging the software developed by Beyond Civic, the IT specialist from Pully is seeking to implement TrustSphere projects more quickly and more cost-effectively.

The internationally active ELCA Group, which is headquartered in Pully in the Swiss canton of Vaud, has acquired a majority stake in Beyond Civic AG. Founded in 2022, the Lucerne-based start-up is behind the development of the TrustSphere software solution designed for the sovereign organization and operation of data ecosystems that work with Artificial Intelligence (AI). According to a statement issued by ELCA, TrustSphere is intended to enable the company to implement its own projects more quickly and more cost-effectively.

“Sovereignty in the age of AI starts with well-governed data that organizations can share without losing control”, as Retus Müller, Executive Board member at the ELCA Group, comments in the statement, adding that: “Beyond Civic complements our AI expertise with the trusted data-sharing foundations this requires”. The two partner firms got to know each other through their involvement in the Tech4Trust funding program: Beyond Civic took part in the start-up accelerator in the area of digital trust, while ELCA took on the role of program partner and sponsor.

“ELCA secures the long-term stability of Beyond Civic’s unique expertise and know-how”, states Stefan Metzger, Managing Director and Member of the Board at Beyond Civic. In future, the partners intend to jointly develop and operate cross-sector data ecosystems, “while remaining independent and driven by the ambition to give the public sector Swiss-made, sovereign governance for AI-ready data”, Metzger concludes.
