Energy Vault builds energy storage systems for Schindler and Energie Wettingen
Lugano/Ebikon/Wettingen - Schindler Aufzüge and Energie Wettingen are the first two Swiss clients of the high-tech B-VAULT FlexGrid energy storage system developed by Energy Vault. This marks Energy Vault’s official entry into the Swiss market, with the company now also targeting growth across the EMEA region from Central Switzerland.
With the launch of its high-tech energy storage device FlexGrid, Energy Vault has announced its official entry into the Swiss market. FlexGrid is a product for industrial, commercial and small utility applications. It offers capacities from 2 to 25 megawatts and is based on a new configuration of the B-VAULT energy storage system from Energy Vault.
In Switzerland, the first of these systems was installed by the company, which was founded in 2017 in Lugano in the canton of Ticino, at the global headquarters of the elevator manufacturer Schindler AG in Ebikon in the canton of Lucerne. It has been certified by Swissgrid. According to the company’s statement, the 2 megawatt/2-hour B-VAULT FlexGrid system ensures quiet operation, grid stability and voltage optimization for both Schindler’s production site and the local community. The installation also includes a ten-year service and maintenance contract.
«Energy Vault’s solution met our technical, operational, and sustainability requirements from day one», as Herbert Stadelmann, Head Real Estate & Facility Management at Schindler, explains, adding that: «The system’s quiet operation and seamless integration with our solar generation make it a benchmark project for sustainable industrial operations in Switzerland.»
In addition, Energie Wettingen based in the canton of Aargau has now ordered an 8 megawatt/2-hour B-VAULT FlexGrid system. The double-level stacked configuration requires less than 50 square meters of space and can be seamlessly integrated into the company’s existing grid, according to Louis Lutz, CEO of the energy supplier. «This project helps to stabilize the electricity grid in Switzerland and to optimize the management of our own energy and power capacity in Wettingen», he states. Both projects are being operated under the Flexpool network of the Axpo subsidiary CKW.
«These installations embody what B-VAULT FlexGrid was designed to do: deliver compact, compliant, and intelligent energy storage where it’s needed most, without compromise on performance or community impact», comments Gianmarco Zorloni, Director of Business Development at Energy Vault.
In the communication, Switzerland is described as a «cornerstone» of the European strategy pursued by Energy Vault. The company has also announced the establishment of a service and logistics center in Central Switzerland to support its further expansion across the EMEA (Europe, Middle East, Africa) region.
