Galliker testing low-emissions retrofit kit for diesel trucks

Altishofen/Wangen - A Galliker articulated lorry has been converted to run on a mixture of diesel and LPG. This has been made possible thanks to a retrofit kit developed by CombiFuel Swiss. The aim of the pilot project with the Lucerne-based logistics service provider is to further develop and fine-tune the system.

In May of last year, Galliker from Altishofen in the canton of Lucerne launched a pilot project for a low-emissions engine operation together with CombiFuel Swiss AG (CFS) from Wangen in the canton of Schwyz, further details of which can be found in a press release issued by the Lucerne-based logistics service provider. In specific terms, the pilot project was focused on installing a CFS CombiFuel retrofit kit in a Galliker articulated lorry. This system makes it possible to partially replace conventional diesel fuel with liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). As a result, emissions from the articulated lorry can be reduced by up to 40 percent, Galliker explains.

The pilot project being carried out by the two partners serves to lay the groundwork for serial production of this system. For this purpose, test drives were carried out under regular working conditions, the press release explains. The articulated lorry has been with CFS since the end of December. The focus of this stage of the pilot project is on analyzing and evaluating the test operations. Findings from the pilot project are also being fed into further developments and improvements of the retrofit kit. The aim is to be in a position to install the system in truck models of any type from all manufacturers.
