Geistlich establishes new subsidiary in China

Wolhusen/Schlieren/Suzhou - The Geistlich Group has founded a second subsidiary in China. From 2029, this will manufacture biomaterials for the Chinese market. In so doing, it will complement the production site in Wolhusen, an expansion to which is in the planning stage.

Geistlich Pharma AG from Wolhusen in the canton of Lucerne, which forms part of the Geistlich Group in Schlieren in the canton of Zurich, is strengthening its international presence with a second Chinese subsidiary. The newly founded Geistlich Biomaterials (Suzhou) Co., Ltd will be responsible for the production of biomaterials for the Chinese market from 2029 and will therefore complement manufacturing activities in Wolhusen, as the company writes in a statement. As part of its growth strategy, the company is also planning to expand its main production site in Wolhusen.

According to the statement, China is one of the world’s fastest-growing healthcare markets. Geistlich has been operating in China through a first local affiliate since 2008. However, market access, regulatory requirements and supply chain dynamics now demand a stronger local presence, the company states. The new subsidiary is located in the Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) and will strengthen Geistlich Pharma’s market position in China on the basis of local production activities.

“The agreement with the Suzhou Industrial Park is an important milestone for Geistlich to develop local structures and secure access to the Chinese market in the long term”, comments Jürg Roth, CFO of Geistlich, in the statement.

The new location in China will complement the main production site in Wolhusen, which is at the heart of Geistlich’s global production activities as well as housing its R&D activities. Plans are now in place for a new dedicated collagen production building at the Wolhusen site.
