Goebel strengthens with acquisition and new location
Baar ZG/Eschenbach LU - Goebel manufactures printing machines for the production of bank notes. The company is now taking over MM Druckmaschinen GmbH from Müller Martini. In addition, Goebel started work in July on the construction of a new premises in Eschenbach.
According to a press release, Goebel Capital GmbH (Goebel) is taking over MM Druckmaschinen GmbH from the Aargau-based family firm Müller Martini. The subsidiary of Müller Martini, which is headquartered in the German town of Maulberg, previously sold variable format web offset presses. Over recent years, MM Druckmaschinen GmbH has switched its focus to the service industry for printing machines. Upon completion of the takeover, the company is to be renamed Goebel MMD GmbH.
Goebel manufactures high security printing machines that facilitate the production of bank notes, stamps, passports and similar products that include security features. The company, which is headquartered in Baar, is currently planning to move to the canton of Lucerne. In July, construction work started on a new location in Eschenbach, with the newspaper Luzerner Zeitung reporting on the ground-breaking ceremony. Here, machines are to be assembled and tested. In addition to production halls and office space, the new premises will also offer a training center. Overall, 20 new jobs are to be created, with Goebel investing a total of 10 million Swiss francs in the construction of its new premises.
In September, Goebel is already planning to start assembly work on the first Eschenbach-produced machine. This is then to be shipped to China. Manuel Vogel, CEO of Goebel, explained to Luzerner Zeitung: "We have been awarded a contract by the Chinese post office. Next year, a delegation will inspect and assess the machines that will be used to print postage stamps in future".
The machines manufactured by Goebel have been used to print French and Danish euro bank notes, among other products. One day, Vogel hopes that Goebel machines will also be used to print Swiss money.
