Heineken plans new Eichhof city brewery in Lucerne

Lucerne/Kriens - Heineken Switzerland is investing a double-digit million amount to build a new Eichhof urban brewery and modernize its headquarters in Lucerne. It has also announced plans to transform the historic industrial site between Lucerne and Kriens into a residential neighborhood.

Heineken Switzerland has announced a new Eichhof urban brewery and the modernization of its headquarters. The brewing company has also plans to transform the historic 38,000-square-meter industrial site into an attractive residential and living space. According to a statement from Heineken, the project is being closely coordinated with the cities of Lucerne and Kriens, in the Swiss canton of Lucerne, where the site is located, as well as with the regional development agency LuzernPlus. Heineken says it is investing a double-digit million amount in these developments.

Starting in 2030, the future city brewery will operate as a full-scale brewery, producing and bottling the entire Eichhof product line. It is also set to become an innovation center where new recipes will be developed and older ones revived. According to Heineken, Lucerne will become the hub for Eichhof beers, specialty brews, and innovations, while some larger-volume production will take place at the Chur facility. «Eichhof belongs to Lucerne, and that’s how it should remain in the future,» says Marc Moser, Country Manager of Heineken Switzerland. «That’s why we’re investing in a new, full-scale brewery and our headquarters in Lucerne.»

For the city of Lucerne, «it is important that this tradition be preserved with care», as Korintha Bärtsch, Lucerne City Councillor and Director of Public Works, emphasizes. «At the same time, the redevelopment of the site offers a great opportunity to repurpose unused production and storage areas and transform the site into an attractive, publicly accessible space.» Maurus Frey, City Councillor and Director of Public Works for the city of Kriens, is also delighted «that the traditional Eichhof Brewery will remain at the Eichhof site and that this exciting and historic location between the cities of Kriens and Lucerne will develop into an attractive and vibrant place to live and work.»
