Herzog-Elmiger opens new headquarters in Obernau on 120th birthday
Kriens-Obernau - After 65 years in Kriens, Herzog-Elmiger AG has moved into its new headquarters in Obernau. With the official opening of the new location, the family company, which is active in the timber trade, also celebrated its 120th anniversary on August 23 and 24, 2025.
Herzog-Elmiger AG has officially commenced operations at its new site in Obernau in the canton of Lucerne. Previously, the wood materials trading company was based on Langsägestrasse in Kriens for 65 years. As the company explains in a press release, its search for new premises became necessary after the family-owned business property was expropriated by the Federal Roads Office for the Lucerne bypass highway project.
Coinciding with opening the new headquarters, the family business also celebrated its 120th anniversary on August 23 and 24, 2025. Siblings Melanie and Michael Herzog, who took over the business from their father André Herzog in 2022, are now the fifth generation of the family to manage the company.
According to the information, customers and partners of the business, in addition to the local neighborhood and general public, were invited to take part in guided tours of the new building, which is made from wood and covers an area of 10,190 square meters. The guests were afforded insights into business operations and had the chance to see for themselves the fully automated warehouse, the veneer warehouse which houses special types of wood and the new exhibition, as well as the photovoltaic system installed on the roof, which saves around 336 tons of CO2 per year.
The 12-meter-high hall, its supporting structure made of Swiss wood, and the view into the logistics center, where up to 200 tons of goods are moved daily, were reportedly particularly impressive. The spaces created for employees, including an activity room, a relaxation room with furniture in Swiss stone pine, a terrace containing a large barbeque area, and a coffee bar, reportedly also attracted a great deal of interest.
«With this new building, we have seized the chance to future proof and sustainably develop our company», comments Michael Herzog. «This is a space for innovation that maintains strong links to our traditions at the same time».
