HGC to redevelop its Lucerne site
Lucerne/Zurich - The construction materials supplier HGC is redeveloping its Lucerne site in the former Tribschen industrial area. A new city hotel is to be built on one of the two plots, while the building on the other plot is being renovated. Operations at the new logistics hub based in Inwil commenced back in September.
HGC, a construction materials supplier that operates across Switzerland, is set to redevelop its location in Lucerne, as the company writes in a statement. This move comes in response to the transformation of the former Tribschen industrial area into a centrally located urban district.
Last September, HGC relocated its regional transport business to a new location in Inwil in the canton of Lucerne. From here, the company will also be serving all regional customers in the next two years.
The old location in Tribschen is now being redeveloped, after the previous building at Tribschenstrasse 7/9 was demolished last year. In its place, the new boutique hotel 6000 is being built. The top floor will be home to the new headquarters of the Central Swiss Master Builders’ Associations.
The building on the adjacent property at Tribschentrasse 11 is being refurbished using the existing supporting structure. The top five floors are to be rented out as office space branded as Tribschen Office, whereby half of the space has already been leased. A commercial business and the HGC pick-up point will be located on the ground floor.
HGC has been using the location in Tribschen, a district of the city of Lucerne, since the beginning of the 1920s. The total renovation and repurposing of this site will allow the company to leverage benefits linked to the local urban development project.
HGC was founded as a cooperative in 1899 and is headquartered in Zurich. It trades in the construction materials business and related products. The company is owned by its membership of more than 3,000 partners, which operate across all construction sectors.
