Hornbach Switzerland expands range with UpBoards recycled panels
Buchs/Gretzenbach/Oberkirch - Hornbach Baumarkt (Schweiz) AG, from the Swiss canton of Lucerne, is now selling UpBoards GmbH plastic panels online and in four stores. At its production site in Gretzenbach, UpBoards manufactures panels from mixed plastic waste in Gretzenbach in the canton of Solothurn.
The swiss company UpBoards GmbH has announced a new partner. Hornbach Baumarkt (Schweiz) AG is now selling UpBoards panels made from recycled mixed plastic (MP), which the company manufactures in Gretzenbach, according to a statement from UpBoards. Both the MP panels and the MP structural panels from UpBoards are available in the online shop and in four Hornbach stores in a format of 120 x 60 x 1.5 centimeters.
Both MK panels and MK textured panels from UpBoards are available in the online shop and in four Hornbach stores, each measuring 120 x 60 x 1.5 centimetres.
«Each Hornbach board measuring 120 x 60 centimeters recycles 9 kilograms of plastic waste, avoids 19 kilograms of CO2, and saves 10 liters of crude oil,» UpBoards Managing Director Beat Bolzhauser is quoted as saying in the statement. «These figures clearly show the extent to which our panels contribute to achieving climate targets.» Founded in 2018, the company produces its panels with mixed plastic waste from Swiss households, including the contents of plastic collection bags like Kunststoffsammelsack.
Recycling mixed plastic waste is challenging because different plastics have different properties and the waste is contaminated to varying degrees. According to UpBoards, the patented production process for high-quality sheets is unique in its combination of extrusion and injection molding processes.
UpBoard also collaborates with companies on the development of closed-loop recycling systems. These involve using the companies' own plastic waste to manufacture new products in-house that can be returned to the recycling loop at the end of their service life.
