HSLU opens new building adjacent to Lucerne railway station

Lucerne - The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) has opened the doors to the new Perron building, which together with the Zentralstrasse 9 building forms the Campus Luzern Bahnhof. The Perron building unites the Lucerne School of Social Work and Lucerne School of Business under one roof.

The Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) has opened the five-story, 180-meter-long Perron building at the start of the new semester, as detailed in a statement. HSLU is leasing the building from Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) and is using approximately 21,000 square meters of space.

The new teaching facility brings together the Lucerne School of Social Work and Lucerne School of Business. Together with Zentralstrasse 9, the Perron building forms the Campus Luzern Bahnhof, named after its close proximity to Lucerne’s main railway station. Around 3,000 students taking undergraduate and Master’s programs in Economics, Social Work and Nursing, approximately 400 staff members and 6,500 continuing education participants will study and work on the campus in the Rösslimatt district. Other locations dotted throughout the city, including Werftestrasse 1, Frankenstrasse 7/9 and Rösslimatte 48, are to be shut down.

The Perron building offers modern infrastructure with classrooms and workspaces, plus an auditorium, offices and a library. The new building also houses university sports facilities and a psychological counseling center. Catering options include a cafeteria, a bistro and a dining area, while an Asian restaurant is also located on the ground floor. “The central location, direct public transport connections and the modern infrastructure enhance the appeal of Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts”, comments Christine Böckelmann, Dean of the Lucerne School of Business.

The connection to the district heating and cooling network of Energie Wasser Luzern (ewl) guarantees 100 percent sustainable heat and cooling generation. Visitors will have an opportunity to see the new facilities for themselves during an open day on June 20, 2026.
