Imbach Logistik AG opens logistics center in Lucerne

Lucerne/Schachen - Imbach Logistik AG has opened a fully automated logistics center in Lucerne-Littau. Designed in line with Industry 4.0 requirements, the new site facilitates secure warehousing, order picking, and just-in-time delivery to regional producers.

Imbach Logistik AG from Schachen in the Swiss canton of Lucerne, a subsidiary of Galliker Transport AG based in Altishofen in the canton of Lucerne, has commenced operations at a new logistics location in Lucerne-Littau, as detailed in a press release. With its fully automated high-bay warehouse and highly flexible small parts warehouse, the center, which has been designed in line with modern Industry 4.0 requirements, is reportedly «sending out a strong signal for Lucerne as a business location», as the company writes. After finalizing the build across two construction phases, Imbach Logistik is now in a position to create a total of 60 new jobs.

A special feature of the new center is the spatial layout of the warehouse: In contrast to the conventional horizontal placement usually seen in the industry, the small parts warehouse has been installed vertically above the high-bay warehouse to maximize space utilization. Warehouse automation is made possible by the use of state-of-the-art shuttle technologies and an integrated warehouse management and material flow system developed by partners SSI Schäfer AG and EPG. The Schäfer Flexi Shuttle system, together with the LFS software developed by EPG, is responsible for coordinating storage and retrieval operations as well as managing upstream pick-and-pack processes with maximum efficiency.

Sustainability is also a focal point of the new location: The building with a volume of 215,000 cubic meters is fully powered by a photovoltaic system with an output of 1,000 kilowatt peak, which generates around 1,150,000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year. The supply of heating and cooling is environmentally friendly with a groundwater heat pump in combination with a freecooling system. «With the new Lucerne Logistics Center, we are creating the basis for even more efficient and sustainable services for our customers. Industrial companies in the region in particular will benefit from state-of-the-art technology and individual logistics concepts», explains Christian Kempter-Imbach, Managing Director of Imbach Logistik AG.
