immoTable Luzern: Growth Requires Coordinated Planning
Emmenbrücke – The Canton of Lucerne will continue to grow. For this growth to be sustainable in spatial terms, structure planning, housing, business zones and infrastructure need to be aligned, and planning must start well in advance. This was the key message of the 110th immoTable Luzern in Emmenbrücke.
On 24 September, representatives from politics, the real estate sector and regional development met at the Gersag cultural and congress centre to discuss how Lucerne can grow without worsening the housing shortage, traffic congestion and the pressure on existing neighbourhoods. New development areas such as Luzern Süd and Luzern Nord can add value for the region if housing, work, mobility, infrastructure and quality of public space are considered together from the outset. This is according to a statement by the organiser, immoinvest.ch.
Cantonal Councillor Fabian Peter, Head of the Department of Construction, Environment and Economic Affairs, pointed to key upcoming decisions on the Lucerne through station, the Bypass motorway project and the planned partial covering of transport infrastructure in Luzern Süd.
On the panel, Stefan Jönsson [function] of Luzerner Kantonalbank and Samuel Bucher [function] and Silvio Frei [function] of newhome.ch stressed that additional housing and available development land are needed, as are clear legal frameworks and reliable procedures for long-term investment. Where this creates a high quality of life, they said, people are also more willing to accept change and larger-scale developments.
Andreas Zettel, Head of Business Development at Luzern Business, underlined the importance of attractive locations for both established and newly relocated companies. According to Zettel, the cantonal development priority areas are intended to link settlement, transport and business location development along well-connected mobility corridors. «Lucerne is successful and will remain attractive», he said.
