More than a billion being invested in sustainable energy by ewl

Lucerne - The energy provider ewl (energie wasser luzern) has earmarked more than one billion Swiss francs for the ongoing energy transition. This investment will flow into hydroelectric power, district heat, photovoltaic plants, electromobility and intelligent energy concepts from a single source.

The energy provider ewl (energie wasser luzern) is reportedly investing more than one billion francs in converting its energy system. For a climate neutral future in the Lucerne area, ewl intends to advance hydroelectric power, district heat, photovoltaic plants, charging solutions for electric vehicles and intelligent energy concepts. The main focus for ewl is climate friendly solutions from a single source.

Supplying energy in a more environmentally friendly way through district heat and hydroelectric power is in full progress, as the company emphasized with reference to investment of 330 million francs that has already been made. Currently, 3,700 households in the center of Lucerne are being supplied with sustainably generated heat. For existing district heat networks, ewl is planning further expansion. The grid will be extended to non-urban areas. For places where oil and gas cannot be replaced directly, ewl intends to come up with interim solutions. And ewl has earmarked 20 million francs for the installation of solar panels on municipal buildings.

In the field of electromobility, “charging solutions with intelligent charging management” are planned for large developments and companies. So far, ewl has installed more than 250 charging stations, of which around 100 were in the current financial year. Investments in charging infrastructure of around 13 million francs will boost availability to 3,000 stations by 2030

Currently, ewl is active in projects to promote biogas and power-to-X conversion technologies. Another focus is continuing to supply households nationwide with intelligent meter systems and electricity meters.
