MSD marks 50th anniversary in Schachen
Lucerne/Schachen/Rahway - MSD Merck Sharp & Dohme has celebrated the 50th anniversary of its Schachen site. The Mayor of Werthenstein, Lukas Hermann, took part in the unveiling of a commemorative plaque.
The life sciences company MSD Merck Sharp & Dohme, headquartered in Rahway in the US State of New Jersey with Swiss operations based in Lucerne, has celebrated 50 years at its Schachen site, as detailed in a statement. At this location in the Swiss canton of Lucerne, MSD operates analytical and microbiological laboratories, in addition to overseeing the development of biologics, among other activities. The facility also houses one of MSD’s three global forensic labs, where suspected counterfeits of MSD medicines from Europe, the Middle East and Africa are examined. MSD laid the foundation stone for the site on July 9, 1976.
The highlight of the celebrations in September was the unveiling of a commemorative plaque at the entrance to the site. The Mayor of Werthenstein, Lukas Hermann, took part in this ceremony alongside Franz Escherich, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the MSD Group in Switzerland, and Mike Kress, Senior Vice President of MSD Research Laboratories (MRL). Schachen is located in the municipality of Werthenstein.
Over the past 20 years, MSD has invested more than 230 million Swiss francs in the Schachen site, according to the statement. «MSD and Schachen have grown together over the past 50 years. The site provides highly skilled jobs and has become an important part of our local identity. This anniversary is a moment of pride for the entire region», Lukas Hermann states.
