MSD supporting breast cancer screening in Lucerne
Lucerne - MSD Merck Sharp & Dohme is involved in the PINK CUBE Test Your Breast Roadshow in the canton of Lucerne. This allows women aged 50-74 to take part in a breast cancer screening program. Lucerne is the first canton in Central Switzerland to set up a screening program of this kind.
MSD Merck Sharp & Dohme is supporting the PINK CUBE Test Your Breast Roadshow. The company, which is headquartered in Lucerne and is a subsidiary of the globally active pharmaceutical group based in Rahway in the US State of New Jersey, is seeking to play its part alongside other healthcare sector stakeholders in ensuring that the general public is informed about the new breast cancer screening program, as detailed in a statement.
Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in women, with 6,800 women in addition to 60 men dying as a result of this disease in Switzerland each year. Early detection and screening can significantly improve the chances of recovery. The canton of Lucerne is the first in Central Switzerland to offer an organized screening program, according to the statement. Since July 1, 2026, women aged between 50 and 74 who reside in the canton are eligible to participate in the program. The roadshow intends to support the program by raising awareness of the new screening offering at four locations across the canton of Lucerne. The Pink Cube has already visited Hochdorf, Lucerne and Sursee, with another stop scheduled for August 28 in Willisau, where those interested can drop by to find out about prevention, the disease and potential treatments in the square in front of the town hall between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. A team representing the breast cancer screening program, participating radiology centers and the Cancer League of Central Switzerland will be on hand to speak with visitors. Participation in the screening program is covered by health insurance providers, whereby patients only pay the statutory 10 percent excess (approximately 15 Swiss francs).
MSD Switzerland has been involved in the PINK CUBE Test Your Breast project, an information initiative set up by companies, since 2022.
