MSD wins the Prix Galien for Winrevair
Lucerne - MSD has received the Prix Galien Suisse 2026 for Winrevair. The drug, which contains the active ingredient sotatercept, is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension. Winrevair was honored in the rare diseases category.
MSD Merck Sharp & Dohme AG (MSD Switzerland) has won the Prix Galien Suisse 2026 in the Orphan Diseases category for Winrevair, a drug containing the active ingredient sotatercept. Winrevair is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH).
PAH is a rare and progressive disease that affects the blood vessels in the lungs. With Winrevair, MSD is expanding the range of treatment options available to patients. Despite advances in treatment, unmet medical needs persist, writes the company in a statement.
«This award is a great honor for everyone who contributed to the development of Winrevair,» said Jasper Kunow, interim Managing Director of MSD Switzerland. He added that the Prix Galien encourages the company to continue driving scientific innovation and new treatment options.
Lucerne-based MSD Switzerland is part of the global biopharmaceutical company Merck & Co., headquartered in Rahway, New Jersey. In Switzerland, MSD employs over 1,000 people across three locations and has a global innovation and development center in Zurich Circle. MSD produces medications for global clinical trials in Schachen in the canton of Lucerne, where it also operates a forensic laboratory. According to the company, MSD conducts approximately 40 clinical trials annually in Switzerland.
The Prix Galien Suisse is sponsored by the trade publication Medical Tribune, which belongs to Basel-based MedTriX AG and annually recognizes innovative drugs and diagnostics on the Swiss market. The prize is awarded in three categories: Primary & Specialty, Cancer, and Orphan Diseases. A jury of experts from the medical and science sectors selects the winners.
