Perlen Industrieholding to manufacture Pulpex's fiber-based bottles

Root/Sawston - Perlen Industrieholding AG is joining forces with the UK firm Pulpex. Perlen will receive exclusive production and distribution rights to the fiber-based paper bottles developed by Pulpex across the extended DACH region. The start of production at the Perlen site is expected in 2027.

Perlen Industrieholding AG has taken a further step in its transformation from a manufacturer of paper products to a diversified industrial enterprise. In partnership with Pulpex Ltd, a company based in the Cambridgeshire village of Sawston, England, Perlen Industrieholding and its subsidiary Perlen Papier AG are entering the fiber molding-based packaging solutions business.

In specific terms, the Lucerne-based industrial holding company has acquired the exclusive rights for the production and distribution of Pulpex’s patented paper bottles in Switzerland, Austria, Italy and southern Germany, according to a statement issued by Perlen Industrieholding. The bottles, which are certified as recyclable, food-safe and odorless, can hold all types of beverages and other liquids, and are available in various sizes too.

In addition to providing the technology, the partnership also includes a comprehensive implementation and supply chain concept. The company is currently in the process of determining the most suitable method of industrial implementation. The aim is for production at the site in Perlen in the canton of Lucerne to get underway in 2027, where the bottles, which can be disposed of with waste paper, will subsequently be reprocessed for reuse.

«Securing exclusivity with Pulpex in our core markets of Switzerland, Italy, Austria and southern Germany enables us to bring an innovative and technologically leading solution for sustainable packaging to our markets», as Florian Geiger, CEO of Perlen Industrieholding AG and Perlen Papier AG, comments in the statement. «The paper bottle addresses key customer and consumer needs for recyclable, resource-efficient packaging», he adds. At the same time, the company will reportedly be in a position to leverage its existing infrastructure and extensive expertise «to create additional value in the spirit of a functioning circular economy».
