Pistor adds eight e-trucks to its vehicle fleet

Rothenburg - Bakery and catering supplier Pistor, which is based in the canton of Lucerne, has invested 6.4 million Swiss francs to add eight new e-trucks to its vehicle fleet. It now has 11 e-trucks among a total of 101 vehicles, which will enable it to save around 300 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year.

Pistor has added eight new Mercedes-Benz electric trucks to its vehicle fleet. The Rothenburg-based wholesaler, which specializes in supplying bakeries, catering companies and hospitals, has invested a total of 6.4 million Swiss francs in the eight eActros vehicles. According to a company press release, the new vehicles take the number of electric vehicles in Pistor’s fleet to 11; it has 101 trucks in total.

Pistor is seeking to reduce its carbon footprint and respond to customer demands by keeping delivery emissions as low as possible, explains Pistor’s Head of Logistics Richard Betschart. The company will achieve this by using rail links to its logistics hubs. “From there, we will distribute the goods to our customers using low-emission trucks.” Pistor will use solar and water-powered electricity to charge its e-trucks.

The 11 e-trucks will reduce Pistor's carbon footprint by 300 tonnes of CO2 each year. The company says it will fund the acquisition costs, which are higher than those for fuel-powered vehicles, with lower maintenance costs and savings on the heavy vehicle charge. It plans to continue replacing petrol-powered trucks that are withdrawn from the fleet with e-vehicles. Pistor made its recent purchase of eActros trucks via the Lucerne branch of German company Lueg AG.
