Pistor building distribution center for Eastern Switzerland

Sennwald/Rothenburg - The bakery and catering supplier Pistor is building a new distribution center for Eastern Switzerland. Operations at the new plant in Sennwald in the canton of St.Gallen are scheduled to commence in 2024. This investment will set Pistor back more than 18 million Swiss francs.

The wholesaler Pistor AG is building a distribution center in Sennwald for customers in Eastern Switzerland. Pistor supplies bakeries, catering companies and hospitals with groceries and goods. According to a press release, the new distribution center will cover approximately 9,000 square meters, with operations expected to commence in spring 2024. The company estimates that the total investment costs amount to 18.5 million Swiss francs. The distribution center will consist of 16 truck ramps as well as office space, building services and social areas. “This is a milestone for us”, explains Pistor CEO Patrick Lobsiger in the press release. He is of the view that the new hub will offer major advantages to customers in Eastern Switzerland. “They stand to benefit from extra delivery days, faster routes and, above all, sustainable deliveries”, Lobsiger concludes.

According to the press release, Pistor AG had been on the hunt for a location that offers motorway and rail connections. The goods are to be moved by rail during the night from Pistor’s headquarters in Rothenburg in the canton of Lucerne to Sennwald, where they are then delivered to customers in Eastern Switzerland by truck early in the morning.

The new distribution center has been designed with sustainability at the forefront, the press release explains further. It is being built from spruce wood, while a photovoltaic system will be installed on the roof. This will produce 430,000 kilowatt hours of electricity, which corresponds to the energy consumption of 95 households. There are also heat pumps. The delivery fleet partially consists of electric trucks, with plans also in place for a car wash in which rainwater will be collected to clean trucks and railway wagons.
