Pistor opens distribution center in Sennwald to serve Eastern Switzerland
Rothenburg/Sennwald - The bakery and restaurant supplier Pistor has put its new distribution center for Eastern Switzerland into operation in Sennwald. Each day, up to 85 tons of food and goods will be delivered from here.
The wholesaler Pistor AG has opened a distribution center for customers based in Eastern Switzerland in Sennwald in the canton of St.Gallen. According to a press release, Pistor has been supplying bakeries, restaurants and hospitals with food and goods from its new hub since Monday, May 12. Following a build time of approximately 12 months, customers in Eastern Switzerland can now be supplied directly from Sennwald. «The start went smoothly», comments Richard Betschart, Head of Logistics at Pistor, in the press release.
«We expect daily deliveries of up to 85 tons from Sennwald», as Betschart explains further. In total, 21 employees work at the site, most of whom are truck drivers. Three of the 14 trucks are powered by electric drives, with this number expected to rise to 8 over the next few years.
According to the press release, the company has placed an emphasis on sustainability for this project. The Eastern Switzerland distribution center is said to facilitate shorter routes and sustainable deliveries. Pistor transports goods overnight by train from its headquarters in Rothenburg in the Swiss canton of Lucerne to Sennwald, before beginning their onward journeys by truck. This cuts road travel by more than 400,000 kilometers per annum, the company states. The building is also made from wood, which reportedly avoided 670 tons of CO2 emissions. According to the information, there is a solar system, an underground storage tank and a rainwater washing system for trucks and train carriages.
Pistor is a trading and services company that serves the bakery and confectionery industries, restaurants and the healthcare market. Founded in 1916, the company currently employs more than 700 members of staff. According to the company, the Pistor product range includes more than 20,000 products and services, in addition to a large network of specialists. In 2024, Pistor generated sales of 827 million Swiss francs.
