Reworks builds sustainable cardboard furniture

Horw LU - Reworks is reinterpreting furniture for companies. Rather than acrylic, metal or wood, the startup uses sustainable cardboard. The pieces can therefore be made in a recyclable and environmentally friendly way. The startup exclusively manufactures its products in Switzerland and always to order.

Reworks has developed environmentally event equipment and furniture for companies. The startup from Horw uses honeycomb cardboard made by a sustainable company in Sweden. All products can be recycled, as the company explains in a press release.

The founders Walter Küpfer, Pirmin Giger and Thomas Holenstein came up with the idea of creating an environmentally friendly alternative to plexiglass and acrylic partition walls in 2020. They chose honeycomb cardboard from the Swedish supplier Re-board, which plants three new trees for every one they cut down. Honeycomb cardboard is lightweight, stable and can be printed on in high resolution.

The environmentally friendly partition walls were so popular that other products soon followed: shelves, promotional displays and trade fair furniture. Many of these items are often made for a particular event or used for one season, and then land in the bin. This is less of a problem when made out of old cardboard, because this returns to the circular economy and can be recycled.

Furthermore, Reworks only manufactures to order. “We do not simply produce large volumes, and instead make only what our customers actually need,” explained CEO Walter Küpfer in a press release. All aspects of design and production take place in Switzerland.
