Robots put to work in Lucerne restaurants

Lucerne - Service robots developed by the Precom Group AG have recently been deployed in two restaurants in the canton of Lucerne. Both the restaurant Andulino and the cafe at the Swiss Museum of Transport were won over by the benefits offered by computerized serving staff.

The Precom Group AG based in Horw in the canton of Lucerne has this week celebrated a double premiere, further details of which can be found in a press release. Two restaurants based in the canton of Lucerne have opted to deploy the BellaBot, a robot developed by the Precom subsidiary Sebotics. As such, the robot is now being put to work at the restaurant Andulino as well as the cafe at the Swiss Museum of Transport.

“If working with the robot continues to go smoothly, we might even get a second one”, says Jeyakumar Thambiaiah, owner of the Andulino restaurant. The robot helps with serving and clearing tasks, for example, meaning that staff do not have to cover so much ground during service. Feedback from the guests has been positive.

Hans Bühlmann, head of the public catering segment at the ZFV cooperative, also sees the value of the BellaBot in a supporting role. However, both Bühlmann and Thambiaiah were keen to emphasize that the robot will not replace human staff.

Sebotics has already received additional orders for its robots in Switzerland. The company has secured exclusive marketing rights for the BellaBot in Switzerland, although the device itself is manufactured by the Chinese firm Pudu Technology.
