Schindler supplies elevators and escalators for the Bogotá Metro

Ebikon/Bogotá – Schindler from the Swiss canton of Lucerne will be the sole provider of elevators and escalators for Line 1 of the Bogotá Metro in Colombia. By 2028, the metro line is expected to transport over one million passengers per day using fully automated railway systems.

Schindler will be the sole provider of elevators and escalators for Line 1 of the new elevated railway system in Bogotá. The metro line will provide modern, reliable local transport in the Colombian capital with fully automatic, driverless railway systems. Schindler will provide systems that are designed for the specific requirements of public transport, according to a statement from the company. The elevators will be equipped with easily accessible control buttons, enabling barrier-free access to all stations.

The Schindler Technical Operations Center (TOC) in Medellín will remotely monitor every elevator and escalator around the clock. In addition, the Schindler ActionBoard will provide real-time status updates on all of the elevators and escalators, helping to maximize uptime and ride quality for passengers, according to the statement.

«We are incredibly proud to provide our vertical mobility solutions for this historic project», Vikén Martarian, responsible for the Americas and Escalators on Schindler’s Group Executive Committee, is quoted as saying. «This project will benefit the people who live, work, and visit Bogotá and will provide improved connectivity and access for everyone across the capital. Our elevators and escalators will help keep them moving smoothly through the stations.»

As the first metro line in the Colombian capital, Line 1 of the Bogotá Metro is expected to transport over one million passengers per day from 2028. The line has 16 stations distributed over 23.9 kilometers.
