Schurter celebrating 40 years in the USA

Lucerne/Santa Rosa - Schurter is celebrating the 40th birthday of its US subsidiary. The Lucerne-based family firm’s US headquarters were established by Bruno Schurter and are located in California. The company therefore benefitted from the booming IT industry in Silicon Valley.

The technology enterprise Schurter is celebrating its 40th birthday in the USA. The Lucerne-based firm’s stateside subsidiary was established by Bruno Schurter, further details of which can be found in a press release. He is the grandson of the company founder Heinrich Schurter.

Bruno Schurter opted for Santa Rosa, California, as the location for the US headquarters. According to the press release, the company was able to benefit from the IT boom in Silicon Valley. Schurter supplied computer manufacturers with components for power supply and operation, for example. These areas continue to form the focus of the company’s activities.

The Schurter business in the USA is performing well. In fact, a record result was achieved in the previous financial year. A production facility for the production of touch screens with projected capacitive (PCAP) technology is also scheduled to open in Santa Rosa later this year.

Bruno Schurter handed over the management of the American subsidiary to Leonard Overholser in 2018 before returning to Switzerland. He has now established a foundation that supports active and retired Schurter employees and their families around the world. This is consistent with what Schurter calls a “European” approach to corporate culture, for which the company has already been named “Best Place to Work” by the “North Bay Business Journal”.

The Schurter Group today comprises 21 subsidiaries in 17 different countries, which are coordinated from three hubs in Lucerne, Santa Rosa and Singapore. In total, Schurter employs around 2,000 staff. The Group headquarters are still located in Lucerne to this day.
