SCHURTER launches chip fuse for ATEX applications

Lucerne - SCHURTER is launching a new chip fuse with an extended creepage distance and fast tripping time on the market. The USL 0603 is suited to medtech, industrial and electronic applications, in addition to ATEX-certified systems.

The globally active company SCHURTER AG is adding a new chip fuse for ATEX and precision applications to its product range. The new USL 0603 low current chip fuse is characterized by a fast tripping time and an extended operating temperature range of up to 150 degrees Celsius, according to a press release issued by the Lucerne-based firm, which specializes in the development and production of electrical and electronic components. Potential application areas are said to include systems subject to explosion protection (ATEX), in addition to medical technology and industrial sensor applications. «At the same time, its low voltage drop ensures minimal energy losses - an advantage that pays off not only in ATEX applications, but also in battery-operated designs», as Schurter writes in the press release.

The USL 0603 has an extended creepage distance of 1.1 millimeters. It can therefore be used in applications with 60 volts direct current that require a creepage distance of at least 1 millimeter. Furthermore, the new sensor is ideal for areas of applications that are «ATEX-certified systems in which potential ignition sources must be avoided through reliable current limitation». The operating temperature range of up to 150 degrees Celsius makes the chip suitable for use in demanding thermal environments.
