Sebotics robots serving guests at Hotel Walhalla

Zurich/Horw - The restaurant at Hotel Walhalla in Zurich is the first in the city to deploy a service robot. It is used to transport tableware and meals to and from the kitchen and guests. The Horw-based firm Sebotics has secured exclusive distribution rights to these column-shaped machines.

At the Walhalla Hotel in Zurich, which is part of the Fred Tschanz Group, the service robot BellaBot has recently been deployed to bring tableware and meals to and from the kitchen and tables in the restaurant. Previously, the hotel operator tested two BellaBots during a trial run at the hotel, further details of which can be found in a press release. Hotel Walhalla has now decided to continue using one of the service robots.

According to an earlier press release issued by Sebotics, the company, which is based in Horw in the canton of Lucerne, has secured exclusive distribution rights. Sebotics offers a total of five service robots for various applications, such as in restaurants, shopping malls and car showrooms, as well as for room service and at trade fairs. They are manufactured by the Chinese company Pudu Technology. According to the information in the press release, Sebotics has existed as a brand of Precom Group AG, likewise based in Horw, since 2021.

As Sebotics underlines in the press release, the column-shaped machines are by no means intended to replace the service staff. Rather, the aim is to ease the burden on staff so that they are not forced to trek between the kitchen and restaurant laden with dishes when serving the guests. The waiting staff place the tableware, cutlery and dishes on one of the robot’s shelves and select the correct table number on the display. According to Thomas Holenstein, owner and Manging Director of Sebotics, the robot is particularly popular in companies where the kitchen and service point are separated at distance. A number of pilot projects are currently being carried out in Switzerland.
