SGV Group pursuing sustainable goals

Lucerne - All entities within the SGV Group - SGV, Tavolago, Shiptec - should lead the way in terms of sustainability in their respective sectors: tourism, gastronomy and industrial shipbuilding. The holding company is striving to save energy and cut emissions, in addition to operating its businesses in a socially responsible manner.

The SGV Group is striving to position itself as a sustainable leader in the industries in which it operates, namely tourism, gastronomy, hotels and industrial shipbuilding. To this end, the businesses that form part of the group - SGV AG, Tavolag AG and Shiptec AG - are therefore to be developed with an emphasis on sustainability, further details of which can be found in a press release issued by the holding company.

Accordingly, SGV AG is to reduce the proportion of fossil fuels used to power the boats in its regular timetable on Lake Lucerne. The aim is to cut this by 20 percent by 2026 compared with the levels of 2019. The motor ship Rütli will be electrified over the coming winter, while the steam turbines on all five steamships have already been replaced by generators. A photovoltaic system was installed on the roof of the shipyard back in the spring. In addition, SGV AG offsets 5,500 tons of the emissions in its carbon footprint with the help of the climate protection organization myclimate.

Tavolag AG, one of the largest gastronomy enterprises in Central Switzerland, has exclusively used meat, eggs and regional mineral water from Switzerland for several years already, the press release states. Swiss product innovations such as Swiss shrimp, Swiss Alpine salmon, plant-based meat and rice grown in the Reuss river were introduced last year.

Shiptec AG offers its customers innovative solutions for low-emission ships. In addition, since 2022 it has been developing a digital solution to support captains in efforts to operate the ship in an energy-efficient manner. According to the information, a further development phase will focus on making self-piloting, emissions-free ships a reality.

In addition, the SGV Group also highlights its sense of social responsibility for its 434 employees and 17 apprentices from 29 different countries. A transparent wage system guarantees equal pay for men and women, as well as a wide range of perks and fringe benefits. Moreover, the system factors in pay rises in order, for example, to help ease the strain caused by rampant inflation.
