Bern/Grosswangen/Aarau - Every two years, Pro Naturstein honors creative designs using natural stone. This year, Stefan Marti Garten AG received the SuperHink award for horticulture and landscaping. The architecture firm Bruhin Spiess received the SuperHink award for the architecture category.

The Pro Naturstein working group - consisting of leading natural stone companies in Switzerland - promotes the use of natural stone as a sustainable building material. Within the context of this commitment, Pro Naturstein bestows the SuperHink award every two years for creative and authentic design using natural stone. According to a press release, this year’s awards for the categories of architecture/interior design and horticulture and landscaping were given at the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) in Dübendorf, Zurich, on May 11.

The SuperHink award for horticulture and landscaping went to Stefan Marti Garten AG. The company from Grosswangen in the canton of Lucerne received the award for the garden design of a private building. According to the press release, a combination of wood, water, and natural stone created an outdoor space with a “unique character and charm.”

Bruhin Spiess from Aarau in the canton of Aargau has won the SuperHink award for architecture. The architecture firm received the award for the design of the main room during the renovation of the barn at Wildegg castle in Aargau. The floor spanning almost 100 square meters was covered in 154 shell limestone panels of varying sizes from the Mägenwil quarry near to Wildegg castle. Architect Martin Bruhin commented in the press release: “We used massive, large-size panels for this with individual weights of up to 300 kilograms as well as their remnants to minimize resource consumption.”
