SWISS Air Rail expanding to Lucerne and Interlaken

Lucerne/Interlaken - SWISS and SBB are expanding their SWISS Air Rail network to Lucerne and Interlaken in the canton of Bern. From December, airline passengers can continue their journey from Zurich by train to reach 11 destinations.

SWISS and SBB are together expanding the network of SWISS Air Rail to include Lucerne and Interlaken. According to a press release, the direct service between Zurich Airport and the two popular tourist destinations will commence from the start of the new rail timetables on 11 December 2022. It can be booked with immediate effect.

Following the addition of Munich as its first international connection in summer 2022, this latest expansion of the route map brings the intermodal network to 11 destinations.

By adding connections to the cities of Lucerne and Interlaken, “we are making it even more attractive for air travelers to Switzerland to reach their final Swiss destination by train, with all its traffic-free comfort and convenience,” said Véronique Stephan, Head of Passenger Services Markets at SBB.

Tamur Goudarzi Pour, CCO of SWISS, praises the seamless intermodality, adding attractive new tourist destinations, which also serve as an excellent base for exploring other regions. This means guests from elsewhere in Europe and all over the world “can now travel swiftly and smoothly to some of the most appealing places in Switzerland”.

As with all SWISS Air Rail destinations, travelers will be able to book their entire journey in one simple step.  The rail ticket is included in the fare for the flight, Travelers need also only check in once to receive all their boarding passes and rail ticket from the airline.
