Synergiepark Sursee nominated for national location promotion award
Sursee – Four companies from the Sursee region are developing a shared commercial site north of the motorway. Together they need around 40 percent less land than they would with separate new buildings. The «Synergiepark Sursee» has now been nominated for the 2026 location promotion awards of Netzwerk Standort Schweiz.
Netzwerk Standort Schweiz, the umbrella organisation of Swiss location and economic promotion agencies, received 14 entries from across Switzerland for this year’s awards. Its expert jury shortlisted six, including the Synergiepark Sursee. The project was submitted by the Regional Development Agency (RET) Sursee-Mittelland. The nominees presented their projects to the jury in mid-September. The awards will be presented on 26 November 2026 in Bern at the «Dialog Herbst» autumn conference.
Four companies, one site
The Synergiepark was known until recently as «Hammerwald Nord». It is being developed by four local companies:
- Hecht Holzbau AG
- BS Fenster- und Türenbau AG
- Anton Häfliger AG, with its cold storage facility
- Eurobus Häfliger AG, which operates a PostBus depot that also houses the Canton of Lucerne’s vehicle inspection centre
Instead of each planning its own new building, the companies are developing one shared site. According to RET Sursee-Mittelland, this saves around 40 percent of the land. The companies chose the name «Synergiepark» themselves.
Growth on less land
Since the revision of the Swiss Spatial Planning Act in 2014, land in commercial, employment and industrial zones must also be used more efficiently. For companies that want to grow, this means new land is scarce and expansions have to be planned more carefully. The Synergiepark shows how established local businesses can secure room to grow while using less land.
From coordination to implementation
The project was coordinated by the area management of the Sursee development hub (ESP Sursee). RET Sursee-Mittelland runs this area management on behalf of the Canton of Lucerne and six municipalities: Geuensee, Knutwil, Mauensee, Oberkirch, Schenkon and Sursee. ESP Sursee is one of ten development hubs of cantonal significance and the second largest by area. The participating companies have since taken the lead, and the project has moved from coordination to implementation.
