University of Lucerne joins forces with IHEID in Geneva
Lucerne/Geneva - The University of Lucerne has signed a partnership agreement with the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID) in Geneva. Joint applications for research projects and the exchange of teaching staff and students are planned.
The University of Lucerne and the IHEID in Geneva have signed a cooperation agreement and a student exchange agreement, according to a statement from the University of Lucerne. The two institutions intend to submit joint applications for research projects as well as exchange visiting professors in the future. As a first step, a Master's and doctoral student exchange will open to two students each academic year from the coming fall semester.
The University of Lucerne aims to be one of Europe's leading human sciences universities by 2030. «The collaboration is a further step in our efforts to network with other universities specialising in the human sciences,» commented Rector Bruno Staffelbach. «The Geneva Graduate Institute with its thematic focus is thus a perfect fit.» The composition of the student body – «international at Geneva Graduate Institute and predominantly domestic at the University of Lucerne» – also complements each institution perfectly, he continued.
Students from over 100 countries are enrolled at IHEID, which specializes in human and social sciences. Marie-Laure Salles, Director of the Geneva Graduate Institute, said that «this new partnership with the University of Lucerne will strengthen the Institute’s academic network within Switzerland and create the opportunity for more students from Swiss universities to join us in Geneva». At IHEID, they can benefit from the «unique teaching, research and expertise ecosystem which the Institute has to offer».
